Photo of the Week: Smart Bird!

The Kea is the smartest bird I have ever met.  It is a member of the parrot family, a native bird of New Zealand, and a bird well known by locals for it's intelligence.

I found this out first-hand as I unloaded skis from my car at Treble Cone Ski Resort near Wanaka, New Zealand.  I turned to close the trunk of my car, and in the few seconds that I had turned my back, a Kea y made off with part of my lunch!  Kias have even been known to open up backpacks, take out food, and zip the bag back up!  I know it sounds like a myth, but just wait until you meet one of these pesky birds!  This photo is of the little bugger that ate my lunch!
